Nana’s Garden

Nana’s Garden

A garden was a necessity when I was growing up.  We always had a big garden.  Mother would can 250 quarts of green beans, lots of tomatoes, greens, beets, and anything else that we successfully raised that year.  With a family of six, it took a lot to feed us for a whole year.

You would think that I might have done all the gardening I wanted.  Instead, I love gardening.  I have been blessed to have wonderful vegetable gardens as well as beautiful flower gardens.  Everything from 6 foot sunflowers to bouquets of petunias covered the landscape.  My favorites are the tall purple blooms of spider plants from my grandmothers garden.  They are not only beautiful but they reseed themselves each year.  During the warm summer days, butterflies and humming birds embellish the beauty of the garden.
